What information should I know before I call?

We recommend referencing and having:

  • A copy of your lease and your property manager’s information

  • Proof of an emergency if applying for emergency assistance. This could be an eviction notice, pre eviction notice, late rent letter, or the like.

  • Proof of income - including pay stub, social security information, appointment letter or proof of employment start date

  • If you haven’t applied for emergency assistance before, you may need a birth certificate for any minors in your household, school verification for older children

  • Access to your utility bills

Xcel Energy announced it will indefinitely suspend service disconnections and waive late fees when associated with challenges. Call 1-800-895-4999 for more information. CenterPoint Energy is doing the same for gas. Call 1-800-245-2377. USI Wireless is providing free internet access throughout the City of Minneapolis. Comcast has also expanded access to internet, waiving late fees, and providing free hot spots.

I am a Minneapolis Public Housing Authority (MPHA) resident or have a Housing Choice Voucher…

If you are an MPHA resident or Housing Choice Voucher holder, it is important to report any drop in income right away. MPHA advises households to immediately report any loss of income to their eligibility technician, so that rent can be lowered accordingly and promptly. You can also use MPHA’s online forms:
